Tannoy

Tannoy - Hi-Fi

Tannoy was started by Guy R. Fountain back in 1926 as the "Tulsemere Manufacturing Company.

In 1928, the name was changed to Tannoy, short for Tantalum-Lead Alloy.

In the 1940's, Tannoy became a household name after fitting their public address systems in many sporting venues and railway stations around the UK and were even utilised by the Ministry of Defence.

In fact, the end of the second World War was announced by Winston Churchill "over the Tannoy's".

In 1947, Tannoy invented and launched their pioneering achievement; the Dual Concentric Driver, a design which is still being used and further refined to this day.

By the late 60's, Tannoy had improved upon the original Dual Concentric design with the "Monitor Gold".

In the 1970's, Tannoy started making its way into the Pro Audio sector, making their way into Abbey Road Studios. Anyone familiar with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon should know that it was mixed on Tannoy Lancasters.

In the late 1970's, Tannoy relocated from London to Coatbridge, Scotland (where it still operates from today).

By the 1990's, Tannoy had also started developing CI products such as In-Ceiling Speakers.

After being aquired by the TC Group in the early 2000's, Tannoy released a string of critically acclaimed models and in 2015 TC Group was aquired by Music Tribe.

Since taking on ownership of the brand, they have introduced the stunning "Legacy Series", modeled and styled on the incredibly successful HPD Series back in the 1970's and entirely manufactured in the UK.

Today, we look forward with anticipation for what revolutionary new products this iconic brand releases.
